How To Win At Sweepstakes

This kind of sweeping is not very fun.

This kind of sweeping is not very fun.

I’m adding sweepstakes under the Income Ideas tab because I think they can be a fun, easy and viable way to create a side income, or to create some things in your life that you need or want.

When you enter sweepstakes for cash and prizes and you do it on a frequent basis, you are called a sweeper. Let me tell you, it’s way more fun to do this kind of sweeping versus the floor kind!

Have you ever come across a sweepstakes and didn’t enter because “no one ever wins those things” or “I never win anything.” Then you need to read on and get educated about this addictive hobby!

Do people really win at those things?

Oh yes they do! In fact, I’ve won some really great things myself. My favorite wins have been:

  • $1000 shopping spree
  • ipad
  • 64G ipod touch
  • A trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas for me, my husband and my 2 kids

And lots of people win other fabulous prizes. Cars, TVs, vacations, cash, furniture, food, gift cards and anything else you can think of.

This sounds too good to be true.

I assure you it is not! However, there are some downsides. Sweeping is definitely not for everyone. In fact, I tried to get my Mom involved and she couldn’t last more than a day or 2.

Some people find it difficult because sweeping involves a lot of marketing emails (and some phone calls, but not nearly as many as emails) that you need to weed through on a daily basis for wins. I will give you a few tricks for this later in this post.

Also, sweeping is extremely tedious. You have to fill out hundreds and hundreds of forms. You can use a form filler, but even with that, it’s basically the same thing over and over again. You have to read rules for those hundreds and hundreds of sweeps.

And you have to fill out hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of forms if you expect to win an amount that makes all of this worth it! As we like to say… you have to be in it to win it!

Tedious yes, but worth it when you get a win.

sweeps_youwinDoes all that sound completely tedious and boring? It sure can be! But when you go into your email and you get a message that says “Congratulations! You won the 64G ipod touch!” Imagine how that feels. Imagine the elated feeling that you get. It makes it all worth it.

Or you get a phone call saying that you are a winner of a trip to the Bahamas. I mean, it makes you feel like you want to jump over the moon! It’s so much fun!

 The different kinds of sweepstakes.

There are many different kinds of sweepstakes you can enter. Here are a few of the different ones:

  •  Instant wins. These sweeps are fun because you get to win right away! They are usually smaller prizes , and you have to get used to seeing the word “Sorry!”
  • Daily entries. You can enter these sweepstakes every day until the sweepstakes end date. Play every day for better chances to win.
  • 1x entries. You can only enter this kind of sweepstakes 1 time. These kind give everyone the same chance to win.
  • Weekly entries. You can enter to win once a week. I admit these are hard for me because I always forget to go back to them!
  • 24 hour entries. You can enter once every 24 hours. So if you enter at 9:08pm on a Tuesday, the next time you can enter is at 9:08pm on Wednesday.
  • Unlimited entries. You can enter an unlimited amount of times. I usually enter these once and cross my fingers. :)

How to find sweepstakes to enter.

Sweeps_OnlineSweepstakesFinding sweepstakes to enter is really easy. You can go to your grocery store and look around. I bet you will find sweeps on all kind of packages there. You can do an online search. Facebook is an extremely popular place for sweepstakes right now. Type “Sweepstakes” into the search bar and you will find lots of sweeps!

I belong to an online forum where they sort all the sweepstakes for me. They are sorted by:

  • New Sweepstakes
  • Expiring Sweepstakes (I like to enter these first)
  • Expired Sweepstakes
  • Entry Frequency (daily, 1x, weekly, etc.)
  • Prizes (cash, books and magazines, gift certificates, etc.)
  • Other Categories (big prizes, lots of prizes, unique prizes, etc.)
  • Types of Sweepstakes and Contests (instant wins, ongoing sweeps, contests, trivia, etc.)

What to watch out for.

I really like belonging to this forum because all of the sweeps are verified and considered to be actual sweeps and not spam. (And if a spammy site shows up, it is quickly noticed and taken care of.)

You have to keep in mind that when you enter sweeps, you will get tons of marketing messages and some telemarketing phone calls as well. It’s part of the process! This is not spam, you asked for it.

With that said, there are things you can do to deal with it.

Luckily, most sweeps only ask for your phone number as a way to call you if you win. I rarely have a telemarketing call because I entered a sweepstakes.

Most of my marketing messages come through my email. If you’re interested in sweeping, you will want to set up a separate mailbox for your sweeps. And make sure you check it daily, including your spam folder! I almost missed out on the $1000 shopping spree win because it went to my spam folder!

How to tell if it’s a real win or spam.

I have never had any trouble with any of my sweepstakes wins. But, you will get the occasional time share company phone call saying “Congratulations, you’ve earned a free trip…” This is not a sweepstakes win.

When I received my call for the Bahamas trip, they say “Congratulations, you are the potential Grand Prize Winner of the trip to Atlantis…”

You are considered a potential winner because some sweeps wins (especially the bigger wins) require to to fill out paperwork and have it notarized. This is a good thing. This means the sweep is legit!

Another reason I like being a part of a forum is that I can always go back to verify whether or not I entered a sweepstakes. So, if I get a win in my email and I don’t remember entering it, I can always go back and verify to make sure it’s a true win.

Sweepstakes conclusion.

Sweeping can be a really great way to earn gifts, prizes, money and things that you need. But it does take time and patience! While it’s probably not going to create a full-time income online, it can really help supplement your income. I consider it to be one of my favorite hobbies.

If you start sweeping and start winning, be gracious to the company that provided the sweeps and the prize. Make sure to thank them (publicly if possible) and be grateful for the things that you receive.

One last thing to note. As with everything in life, attitude is everything. You need to have the right mindset to be a sweeper. The more you expect to win, the more you will win.

Great post! One of my friends is really in to sweeping, and she too has won some great stuff (incl overseas trips). Out of curiosity, how much time do you spend on this per day?

    Have a fab day!

Well, right now I’m not spending any time on it. I need to carve out some daily time because I miss those win emails! When I was winning pretty steadily, I was doing it 4 or 5 hours a day. That seems like a lot of time (it is!), but other people do it 8 or 9 hours a day. The more you enter, the more you win. So it just depends how much time you’re willing to put into it.

Well, I know all about sweeps, so this one was easy. If it’s a product review that needs lots of research, that takes me much longer! Thanks for stopping by. :)
